The Day You Disappeared Copenhagen April 24 – May 20, 2025

"When we got down to the beach, you were the first to throw yourself into the water. The waves were high, so I told you not to swim out too far, but you didn’t hear anything over the crashing of the waves. Suddenly, it was as if all daylight had run out, and the sky turned dark blue and ominous.  The rain started to fall, thick and heavy, and soon it was hard to tell ocean and sky apart. The horizon dissolved. The darkness of the heavens settled into the ocean.

Then, just as suddenly, the rain stopped. In the darkness a rainbow shimmered. Especially the red and violet colors lit up against the still threatening clouds. We were all soaked and just stood there on the shore, scanning the waves for you, confused and bewildered by the sudden weather change that you had disappeared into. The waves grew taller and taller. I could no longer see your head gently bobbing in the water. Out on the second sandbar, we saw you again, as you stood up and looked back to wave at us."
